3-day Alpujarra highlights

The Alpujarra is a region in the province of Granada, Spain, located in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is a beautiful and diverse region, with a rich history and culture. Here are some recommended activities for a 3-day Alpujarra highlights trip:

Day 1:

  • Start your day with a visit to the town of Órgiva, the capital of the Alpujarra. Here, you can visit the town’s historic center, including the Church of Santa María de la Encarnación and the Moorish baths.
  • In the afternoon, drive to the village of Pampaneira, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Alpujarra. Here, you can wander through the narrow streets, admire the whitewashed houses, and enjoy the stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
  • In the evening, enjoy a traditional Andalusian meal at one of Pampaneira’s many restaurants.

Day 2:

  • In the morning, hike the Poqueira Gorge. This beautiful hike takes you past three traditional Alpujarran villages: Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira.
  • In the afternoon, visit the village of Soportújar, known as the “witches’ village.” This charming village is home to a number of shops selling witchcraft-related souvenirs.
  • In the evening, relax in the thermal baths of Lanjarón, a town known for its natural springs.

Day 3:

  • In the morning, visit the village of Trevélez, the highest inhabited village in Spain. Here, you can visit the Trevélez Cheese Museum and sample the region’s famous smoked cheese and one of the best serrano ham. Trévelez is known for its drying rooms to obtain the best quality products like cured meat.
  • In the afternoon, visit the village of Bérchules, known for its beautiful orchards and vineyards.
  • In the evening, return to Órgiva or Granada.

Of course, these are just a few suggestions, and you can customize your itinerary to fit your interests and time constraints. Here are a few additional activities that you may want to consider:

  • Visit the O Sel Ling Buddhist monastery, located in the village of Trevélez.
  • Go hiking or biking in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
  • Visit the Fuente Agria and Cascada del Chorrerón waterfalls, located near the village of Pórtugos.
  • Try the “Plato Alpujarreño” a special and typical dish that contains potatoes, fried peppers, serrano ham, blood sausage, chorizo sausage, and a fried egg.
